Services
What are the different neuro interventional procedures performed at Accord?

This specialty of neurology uses advanced radiology imaging and 3D technology to view and treat the focal part in brain or spine for diagnosis and treatment. Some of the commonly performed neuro interventional procedures at Accord for treating brain and spinal cord disorders are as follows:

  • Brain and Spine Digital Substraction Angiography: DSA or Digital subtraction angiography helps the surgeons in getting an image of the brain blood vessels in order to detect the problem with blood flow. It involves insertion of a catheter into the artery of the leg or arm to pass it in the brain or spinal blood vessels. After this, a contrast dye is injected that helps in getting the desired X ray images in 3 Dimension. Experts at Accord commonly do this examination for diagnosing vascular diseases in brain, spine, heart, limbs and other organs of the body.
  • Endovascular Coiling: Endovascular coiling is a minimally invasive endovascular procedure that blocks the blood flow to the aneurysm. This procedure is often done for treating an unruptured brain aneurysm or even in ruptured brain aneurysms in some cases where patient is unable to undergo the traditional brain surgery.
  • Mechanical Intervention in Acute Stroke: Mechanical thrombectomy is a commonly done endovascular interventional technique for the removal of the blood clots from the brain after a stroke. It is majorly done in patients suffering from ischemic stroke due to large artery occlusion in the anterior circulation. However, it needs to be critically done within 24 hours from the last known time of being well.
  • Acute Stroke therapy with Stent Retrieval of Thrombus: Patients suffering from acute strokes are also treated through mechanical thrombectomy with a dual stent retriever which is a novel and modern technique by far. This technology serves two functions at one go- it acts as a temporary bypass by permitting restoration of blood flow immediately while also trapping the blood clot within its struts thus facilitating a successful clot removal.
  • Carotid Artery Stenting: CAS or Carotid Artery stenting is an endovascular procedure in which the stent is placed into the narrowed carotid artery that supplies the blood flow to the brain so as to avoid the risk of strokes. This is especially done in cases where traditional carotid artery surgery has been deemed to be too risky or is impossible.

The neuro interventional division at Accord use the latest tools and techniques for diagnosing and treating different diseases and nervous system conditions with the help of minimal invasive surgeries. The team of nurses, doctors, technicians and other support staff members share the common goal of providing customized care for all patients and their family.
