Services

LASIK - LASIK stands for in situ keratomileusis, which aims at correcting vision without the use of contact lenses and glasses. It is one of the most popular types of refractive surgery that helps to correct the ability of your eyes to focus on things. The procedure involves the use of a laser to extract the tissues from under the corneal surface, thereby reshaping the cornea. The procedure takes nearly 30 minutes and can be performed on both eyes simultaneously, and is usually recommended to patients suffering from optic defects like nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Other conditions that can be taken care of with LASIK surgery include:

  • Unstable refractive error
  • Dry eyes
  • Keratoconus
  • Glaucoma
  • Cataract

PRK - Photorefractive keratectomy is also a refractive surgery, recommended to patients suffering from problems like nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. It can help to negate the need for lenses and glasses. The procedure adjusts your corneal shape, with the aim of improving vision. Unlike LASIK surgery, PRK does not involve the creation of a flap. The procedure takes about 10 minutes and is likely to improve your vision by 80 per cent in a span of about 4 weeks.

Cataract Surgery - Cataract surgery is a surgical procedure that aims at replacing the diseased lens of a patient with an artificial lens. The procedure is recommended to patients suffering from cataract, a condition marked by the blurring of vision. Cataract surgery may also be performed if the cataract interferes with the surgical procedure recommended for some other problem, or if the doctor wishes to precisely examine the back of your eye.

Glaucoma Surgery - Glaucoma is a common disease marked by damage to the optic nerve, often resulting in partial or total blindness. Doctors may recommend medicines and laser treatment initially, however, if the patient is not responding to these, then surgery is the best resort. Glaucoma surgery can be of various different types, like trabeculectomy, glaucoma implant and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, all of which help to protect your vision from any further damage caused by glaucoma.

Dr. AK Bakshi will be available for consultation and diagnostic/treatment protocols of Glaucoma patients, having undertaken various pilot projects on safety and efficacy of different treatment regimens and therapies.

Diabetic Retinopathy Surgery - Diabetic retinopathy is not a condition, but rather a complication caused by chronic, unmanaged diabetes, that damages the retinal blood vessels. The patient may not experience any of the major symptoms initially, however, the problem is progressive in nature, which means that the patients gradually lose their vision. Diabetic retinopathy can affect patients suffering from Type-1, as well as Type-2 diabetes. The problem can be treated with the help of medication, laser treatment, and even surgery.

Macular Degeneration Surgery - It is an age-related disease, marked by the blurring of the central vision, or the development of a blind spot in your visual field. The condition is triggered by the leaking of blood or fluids into the macula. The problem is broadly classified into two types - age-related macular degeneration and Dry macular degeneration. The problem can be treated with medication and therapies like photodynamic therapy and photocoagulation.
